I understand that CTG is getting a lot of spam and people are voting for their own songs, bots are adding scripts that have viruses on there artist page, but there has to be a way we can fix this. Not every site out there has this happening. What do you all think we should do to keep it alive. I would really hate for it to die. Being around for seven years is not enough, at least I don't think. I think we should just relaunch it. Like, change the URL, or delete everything and keep the same URL, but get a fresh start. There are a lot of profiles that nobody logs in to anymore. That's a pretty big waste of disk space. I hope I am right, CTG doesn't have to be dead yet. What do you all think about this. We should we do about it? Do you agree with me on a relaunch? Or do you all think I'm out of my mind? Thanks, and please share your opinions. Thanks and cheers and lets all hope that the CTG Music Community lives for a long time.

more so than that, its the inactivity of what I'd like to call "true" members of the scene that makes it feel dead. But no matter how hard people work here it wont be the same as the old days.

+1
But are the 'old days' where we want to be? no!

On the contrary.
In fact, I can remember exactly the point that this site started to decline, and it was a slow one from that period onwards, culminating in what CTG is today.
It was about the time Blue Hand got accused of cheating (which was bullshit anyway), not long after the 1000 days online celebration here, when we had that bright orange colour scheme for 24hrs and MC Hammer assaulting our ears when we logged in.
I noticed a steady decline after that point, partly because some of the then current top artists on CTG all buggered off to record label interests/pursuits (myself included), partly because previously established members were fluttering around, but mostly in my opinion, because of the ridiculous 'must have reviews and ratings' culture that snowballed. Reviewing, to me, back then generally carried merit, in that it was a valued thing - most people reviewed music that was worth reviewing. Certainly didnt stop me looking amongst music with no reviews at all, and amongst all the shit, I found many gems. I know I am not alone in that. But I subsequently noticed on my occasional visits back, that there was this big drive to review *everything* on the site. Lets be honest - that's nonsense. While I applaud the efforts of those to inject some life into this community, placing such emphasis and importance on reviews 'for the sake of it' is not the way to do it.
Lets not open the Reviewing can of worms - you know I am right.
Mix in Ace taking a back seat from running the site, Admin spinning around and up in the air, and Trax in Space reappearing as well. This is all a couple of years or so ago, so to you newer members, these things might be unfamiliar.
But the most noticable thing I observed, as a contributor to CTG as a listener, reviewer and musician, was the subsequent lack of quality music and artists coming onto the site therein. Perhaps saying 'lack of quality' is a bit harsh, but there was certainly not a great deal kicking around that rang my bells.
So, what I am saying, is CTG does need a return to the old days, right where it left off. There was a real atmosphere about this site back then, and the music on it.
Of course, precisely how to do this is something else, but all I will say is this; something brought me here in the first place, and has kept me checking in from time to time.
Discuss.

I visit this site about once every 3 months, whereas before I would make a point of visiting around 10 times a day! I was addicted.. I loved listening to key-member's (there were many at that point) new songs to get ideas from - some of them were high quality, professional-sounding which made me try harder, and eventually succeed, at getting a more professional production quality myself. The excellent producers were happy to give advice on how to get a more stereo-enhanced recording, and how to better arrange a peice.
Additionally, while there were many trance tracks to sift through (I personally am not a fan, but each to their own), there were indeed lots of great tracks to be found and I still listen to some to this day that I have saved on my various backup CDs.
These days I rarely have time to write music, but when I do, I post my stuff at Trax in Space. The reason being is because you can host your own songs, which you can't do here, plus I think TIS is much more active (even though that site itself is pretty much dead too).
Personally I blame a number of things for CTG's (and TIS's) decline. Firstly, I think online music has become more of a 'shove it down yer throat' affair, rather than a community-based thing. Nobody seems to want to interact. Rather, they would rather post a song and for as many people as possible to say "this track rocks!", and then for them to bugger off and say the same thing to someone else.
I also post a lot less on TIS for this reason. There were similar arguments and accusations there (like what Lord Wallace mentioned), and people who joined who badgered on and on (and on and on and on) about reviews, and could not take constructive critism. It wore me down, and then after having a more busy private life with work have completely taken music off the radar. I think if the community were as it was a few years ago, then I would make a point of finding the time to participare no matter how busy I am.

Ah Lord Wallace
There is a great many truths in what you wrote... but I think you mis-interpreted my angle... My point is basically, that looking back to the past is futile, and CTG needs to look to the future. The old days were great, but they will NEVER be that way again, so whats the point in dwelling on it?. That doesn't mean to say we cant have good days ahead - but to get there, we have to move forward, not keep looking back
As for the reviewing can of worms, personally, I've been thinking that alot of the rules and regulations around them, ultimately did the site more harm than good. I think rules need to be relaxed, but of course, still in favour of decent reviews, and not single line 'fuck m this is great!' reviews. I think the bottom line on this is, common sense should prevail, rather than rules and regulations. The bottom line here I think is, CTG should be focused more on its community aspect than reviewing songs. Which I think is what you're driving at, in your xr4x4 with pedal to the floor Hmm, two bottom lines!
In my experience, when I've required feedback, I go to the same sources over and over, and dont place too much emphasis on reviews for that. I ask the friends I've made, from being involved in a community. The feedback I get back is always honest, and always useful. I cant thank roncli, drq and zepsi enough for the help they've given me over the years. I'm better now because of the guidance I've received from those fellows. However, if it wasn't for 'community' then I wouldn't formed such great friendships with these guys, and the countless other fantastic people I've met.
Moving on....
Right now, there is no proper leadership at CTG. Just a few staff members floating around, doing their best to make sure we dont descend into utter chaos, which is what we've seen in recent weeks with some users taking the piss. This needs to be addressed. I've said for a good while that someone with the desire and drive needs to step up and take CTG by the scruff of the neck and shake it up. I dont have either of those, but I definately want to play a part in helping said person achieve success at CTG.
Daily compo. Fuck, I'm sick of seeing it. I'd like to go with something more fun, like FORUM TROLL OF THE DAY!!! and other daft stuff... to give people a grin. Just something, ANYTHING to make it not solely focused on a mp3 dumping ground for distribution, but to get people more inclined to get involved.
We've been fucking around with the logo recently. It brought back a few old faces, who ultimately whinged about it.... but, it was *SOMETHING* that gave the site life momentarily. Maybe I should change it everyday.... Hands up who wants to see a picture of Randor in a fairy costume as the logo? Jokign aside, I think you see my point.
anyway... *steps off soap box*
