Offtopic? Definitely.

I don't. I never understood people who would use 3D shooter level editors to make models of their schools, homes, etc. |

I do. I think games might (and should) sometimes be in touch with reality, just like books or movies are. The might be as educational about the world, its beauty and its problems. I'd really love an adventure that, aside from the plot, would let me visit known places or get to know of other ones - ones I could then find on a map. |

OK, I feel guilty of contributing to the offtopic part, so I'll write something on topic too.
Relaunching CTG sounds like a fun idea, but not so realistic. If there is potential in a community, stagnation is not an option. I mean, the problem is not where to find energy, but how to utilize it. Back in the days, when one site was not enough, 2 new ones appeared, people moved back and forth, wherever there was more positive action. Apparently, we lack the potential to make change at the moment, otherwise it'd just happen.
I think at this point making big plans and talking over various fascinating scenarios doesn't move things forward, so either someone does something for real and have others join in (risking nobody will join in, naturally), or we can keep dreaming. But at some point this must get old too, so let's relax. I'm optimistic and I think something interesting will come up anyway.
In the meantime, we can keep talking here and have the Reneissance crawl its way to our minds gradually.
PS. I want to make some music again, I'm already preparing for it. :-) |

Well, seriously speaking, I would say that the days of CTG as we knew it are over for good. Because they are generally over for almost everybody. If you've noticed, the Internet has changed and people stopped "hanging around" on sites. Stuff like Facebook strongly connect Internet life with real life and so the environment is not Internet now, but rather real life enhanced by means of Internet.
So today people do not feel the interest of "living" in an Internet community, they want something more integrated. Also, as the tracking scene ceased to exist, we lost that invisible boundary which made the community alive - today the so-called mp3 world is so big and general by concept that it is not possible to create any meaningful community around it. There are simply too many people with too broad interests.
It's like a life in a large city. As soon as city population goes over 5000, it is said by urban specialists that it becomes impossible for an individual to embrace the city as a whole. It becomes too big and starts to split into areas. |

I think we have officially spent more time trying to bring back CTG than we ever did actually enjoying those good ole days. And even back then, I remember quite a bit of discussion on whether the old scene (tracking scene) was dead or not.
Personally I cant get back to those days not matter what. I havent produced a track in a year. And I have tried. But I do enjoy all the many mp3s I downloaded from those days, many of which have been lost to dead links since then but are safely in my collection of music from the best time of my life.... CTG 2003 - 2004. |
