I have an idea, but it will take a lot longer for the review to come through:
Vetted reviews.
It works like this: When someone submits a review, someone has to inspect it for quality - if it passes, it gets posted - if it doesn't, it gets dropped.
It's probably not the best way to do it and it isn't infallible either (I'm sure there are a few artists and reviewers who scratch each other's backs) but it might work in reducing the number of nonsense reviews.
Either that or change the review-writing system completely - force the reviewer to comment on certain aspects, like say have a box which says "What do you think of the Dynamics?" and the reviewer has to comment on that. Ditto with Instruments/samples/realism, and ditto with "Feel", ad infinitum (well, maybe not infinitum :o)
You get the idea. If you can't constrain the reviews, constrain the way he writes. Or something.

There is a similar system which is basicly made now, it will start working soon.
The deal is that reviews are not checked before they appear, instead of that bad reviews can be reported and are removed later on, but offcourse the reviewer will have his chance to fix the review first. Simple review monitoring.

Haha! The prophecy was true!
As I thought, the free system from the beginnings of CTG wouldn't survive. |

Hate to start trouble.. but I happened to be reviewing a song titled "Judges of Time' by R.O.T.. and I happened to notice that the first review was from slog . Now Slog is complaining about short uselss reviews.. but please read the following review from Slog:
............................................................................................................................
Lousy start i must say. it seems like you just pushed some tones.. well the rythem that kicks in is way better. but i must say you need to work relly hard on you melodies..
One more thing, if you have worked with tracking since 1997 you should give up your tracker. you suck on those melodies......
............................................................................................................................
I guess this is the "ideal" review ?

I guess some people think that one short review is better than no review at all.. and I agree. These short reviews reflects the reviewers rating of the song, but not why he or she liked it / disliked it. I think giving an explenation about why you think a song is good or not should be required.. after all, we are here to learn, aren't we?
There should still be some option that allows people to give ratings only, maybe like it was on Trax In Space, with its 'public' and 'official' reviews? The public reviews were short, sometimes there was only the rating. The official reviews were long and detailed, delivering constructive (usefull) criticism to the artist.
I guess this would take a lot of programming.. I don't really know.
Personally, I like the longer and detailed reviews better..

Well i think we allready have what TiS had, only in a bit different shape, we have official reviews which each artist can write and which count for the song popularity and rating and on the otherside we have public reviews which are called "comments". I could add option to select a number from 1-10 beside each comment but i dont think this would be a good ideas since people dont use comments just to review, in many cases also artists them selfs write comments for their songs.
I think ultimative solution is that when you want to rate song in comment you simply write your rating by words.
